I've been making snacks for my 8 month old daughter, but only savory so far, cheese twist ect. I would like to make her some fruit/sugar free ones but not sure how they will taste without sugar. Please help.
I can't use honey as she's under one and although she eats everything inmashed I haven't given her raisins yet.

Happy Birthday Biscuits:

For this recipe, letter stencil cutters will be needed. If you can’t find any, try buying children’s modelling clay cutters - as long as they haven’t been used they will work just as well!

Ingredients:

250g (9oz) plain white flour

Three tbsps honey

150g (5oz) butter

One tbsp baking powder

One tsp ground allspice

Method:

Preheat your oven to 180 deg C/350 deg F/gas mark four. Melt your honey and butter in a small pan over a low heat. Sieve your flour, baking powder and allspice into a bowl. Roll into a dough, wrap in cling film and place in the fridge to chill for an hour or so. Then lightly dust a clean surface with flour and roll out to about one and a half cm thick. Cut into shapes spelling out “Happy Birthday“ and your friend‘s name, using your letter cutters.

Place on a lightly greased tray and bake in the centre of the oven for about 10 minutes. Remove and leave to cool. Arrange carefully on a plate before the big day.

Sugar Free Hearts:

These biscuits will make a perfect gift for your loved one on Valentine’s Day. Try presenting one in a box tied up with a ribbon.

Ingredients:

250g (9oz) plain white flour

Three tbsps sugar free apricot jam

150g (5oz) butter

One tbsp baking powder

One egg

One large bar diabetic dark chocolate

Method:

Preheat your oven to 180 deg C/350 deg F/gas mark four. Beat your butter and sugar free apricot jam together in a large bowl. Then beat your egg separately and mix in. Sieve your flour and baking powder into the bowl. Roll into a dough. Lightly dust a clean surface with flour and roll out to about one and a half cm thick.

Cut into small heart shapes - or one large heart shape. Place on a lightly greased tray and bake in the centre of the oven for about 15 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and leave to cool. Melt one or two squares of dark diabetic chocolate per heart and spread over each biscuit. Allow chocolate to harden.

New Year Biscuits:

125g (4.5oz) butter

250g (9oz) plain flour

Three tbsps granulated sweetener (check manufacturer’s instructions)

One egg, beaten

Small metal horseshoe shape

Method:

Preheat your oven to 180 deg C/350 deg F/gas mark four. Cream your butter and granulated sweetener together in a bowl until light and creamy. Beat your egg separately then add to the mixture. Sieve your flour and baking powder into the bowl. Roll into a dough. Lightly dust a clean surface with flour and roll out to about one and a half cm thick.

Using a cookie cutter, cut into circular shapes. Press your horseshoe shape on to each biscuit. Place on a lightly greased tray and bake in the centre of the oven for about 15 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and leave to cool. Give to your friends at New Year to wish them luck for the next 12 months.

Sugar Free Pecan Cookies:

This is a nice flavoursome biscuit. The honey flavour works well with the pecan.

Ingredients:

125g (4.5oz) butter

125g (4.5oz) plain flour

Three tbs honey

One tsp tsp vanilla extract

One egg

125g (4.5oz) plain flour

Half tsp bicarbonate of soda

50g (1.5oz) pecans

Method:

Preheat your oven to 180 deg C/350 deg F/gas mark four. Melt your honey and butter in a small pan over a low heat. Sieve your flour and bicarbonate of soda into a bowl.

Stir in the hot melted liquid. Add your vanilla essence. Beat your egg in a small bowl then stir that in too. Add your pecans. Roll into a dough, wrap in cling film and place in the fridge to chill for an hour or so. Then roll into small balls, place on a lightly greased tray and press down on each with a fork.

Bake in the centre of the oven for about 10 minutes. Remove and leave to cool.

For breakfast, make an easy omelet. Peppers, mushrooms, and broccoli in olive oil; add omega-3-enriched or free-range eggs and diced turkey or chicken breast.

Paleo lunches are easy. At the beginning of the week, make a huge salad with anything you like. A good starting point can be mixed greens, spinach, radishes, bell peppers, cucumbers, carrots, avocadoes, walnuts, almonds and sliced apples or pears.

For dinner, try spaghetti squash as a substitute for any pasta recipe. Top with pesto, marinara and meatballs. Roasted beets and their greens make a great side dish for pork.

Coconut Flour Paleo Biscuits

Ingredients

3/4 cup coconut flour (do not pack down!)

1 tsp baking soda

1/2-3/4 teaspoon sea salt

5 large eggs

1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

1/2 cup shortening (non-hydrogenated)

4-5 slices organic bacon

1 large shallot, minced (about 1/3 cup)

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Cut the bacon into small pieces and fry until crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove the crispy bacon pieces to a small bowl.

Fry the minced shallots in the bacon fat until translucent, picking up all the browned bacon bits from the pan. Set aside to cool slightly.

Combine the coconut flour, baking soda and salt.

In the bowl of a stand mixer whisk the five eggs together with the apple cider vinegar. Add the flour mixture and beat until combined – the mixture will be very thick.

Add the shallots and bacon fat and the shortening and continue mixing until well-combined, scraping down the sides of the bowl as necessary.

Add the bacon pieces and mix until combined.

Spoon mixture onto a baking sheet covered in either parchment paper or a Silpat. You will make 12 large biscuits. They should look something like this.

Just substitute Splenda or Stevia for the sugar. I like it best at half Splenda or Stevia per cup of sugar. Warning! Neither Splenda nor Stevia food products will brown nicely. The stuff just does not carmelize so no browning. Note: the cakes and biscuits etc. will not be exactly "sugar" free. They still have flour and milk in them and it is a whole boat load of carbohydrates (sugar), even if you use whole meal flours.

there is actually nothing that is sugar free as the flour is a sugar in the digestive system.

My oldest daughter traded her arrowroot teething biscuits for the dog's milk bone biscuits at age 1!! I quit buying the expensive arrowroot biscuits then and just bought milk bone biscuits for both of them! Dog lived to be 14 and daughter is now 45 and has fantastic teeth and health!

All plant derived foods and most milk products contain quite a bit of sugars called carbohydrates. Not allowing the child sugar is only half the battle! Most people think of sugar as the sweet stuff, but it really isn't! All grain products turn into more sugar than the tiny bit needed to make biscuits brown nicely in the oven.

Diabetes is usually treated through a combination of diet (low sugar), exercise and medications/insulin. Milder cases can be controlled with just diet an/or exercise while more severe cases require meds or insulin as well.

There is a lot of stuff on the internet that is basically fat-shaming diabetics for causing their own diabetes with their bad diet and lack of exercise and general lack of moral fibre. A lot of this stuff is written by non-doctors, often with a supplement or diet or training plan to sell that they claim will completely cure diabetes if only people stick to it.

I read this interesting book https://tr.im/qmAPs that gave me a lot of useful tips about my disease and also a different perspective on the best therapeutical approach. I think you should read it too.
