Need advicefor Working with gold leaf on frosting?

want to draw a chalice on abutter cream frosting and guild it with gold leaf i have the gold leaf sheets

take a small knife, paring knife or boning knife, something with a thin, small blade, and tear off small pieces and slowly lay them on the chalice piece by piece, it won't be a clean look but it will give depth to the piece. make sure some are sticking up off the cake.
