Why do Americans eat pizza with pineapples?

Hi. I came to the US and someone ordered pizza and it had lots of pineapples on it and it tasted very strange. We never see something like that in Ireland.

Just a version liked by Americans. It has been around for decades and originally was called Hawaiian Pizza and had pineapple, ham or canadian bacon on it. But now you can often create your own. I like to order mine with pineapple, ham, grilled chicken, bell pepper onion and bbq sauce instead of pizza sauce.

That's a good question. I never really heard of it when I was younger. I still have not tried it but I do like veggie pizzas so I don't think it would taste so bad. In fact, I might try pineapples with pizza at the new pizza buffet I have heard of.

Actually we (Canadians) did that (the inventor passed away who happened to be Canadian). I've never understood why the Hawaiian pizza (ham or back bacon with pineapple) was a thing, but it's quite popular here (never cared for it- really happy with a well made margherita pizza).

Pineapple is usually on Hawaiian pizza, & as pineapples are grown in tropical zones you won't see too many in Ireland. My theory is that because the media and other influential stuff out there in America limit adults to eat and do certain stuff. Adults in America are EXTREMELY socially limited to a lot of things... like not socially acceptable to do a lot of things.. which includes, but is not limited to, eating certain foods. And the pineapple on pizza thing you mention is supposed to be "for adults" so if the adult in America easily allows the media and other things to make decisions for him or her, then they WILL like (or pretend to or even lie to themselves) pineapple pizza or Hawaiin pizza as they call it.

I worked in a pizza shop for three years, and as you can imagine, I was getting sick of everything pizza wise. So I started experimenting, and pineapple was one of these experiments. The idea originally sounded disgusting but I actually love it. It won't work for everyone but I think it's good. 😊 Just one of those preference things I guess.
