My German Grandmother used to make this delicious Golash and I never got the recipe. So I've been looking online and all I seem to be finding is what looks like American Chop Suey. Which is Hamburg, tomatoes, elbow macaroni and cheese melted on top. I know there is the traditional recipe but I never heard of this "American" Golash before. It looks a lot like American Chop Suey. Is it the same thing just renamed?

chop suey is more salthy and has a variety of slimed cooked vegetables.

goulash is more hearty with potatoes and a gravy type entree and other laerge, or chopped vegetables.

There is a popular dish in the New England area specifially called, "American Chop Suey". it has nothing to do with any type of Asian style cooking at all. American Chop Suey is basically nothing more than Beefaroni. American Chop Suey, American Goulash, and Beefaroni are all pretty much the same thing.

The dish you describe is neither Goulash nor Chop Suey but "Hamburger Macaroni" which is an American dish.

Goulash is stew containing heavily spiced meat, potatoes, and other vegetables.

Chop Suey is an Americanized Chinese dish.

No. And Chop Suey is American because it was invented in the US - not China.

Chop Suey is Chinese, so I doubt it's the same as golash.

There really is no such thing as 'American chop suey.' They are just using that name to sell it.

And try looking under 'goulash' which is how I have always seen it spelled.
