I'm cooking soup for dinner because it's cold out, but I'd like a bit more substance to it. I've never made potato soup before so I'm just wondering if hamburger meat is a good addition.

What would you recommend? Thanks.

I think hamburger would be good and hearty. Meat and taters! Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

I use ham cubes in mine or smoked ham hocks.

Hamburger in potato soup is also taste. And the other way around is even tastier. (Potato burgers, they serve it at an inn near here and it is a huge hit every time.)

Along with the other additional suggestions, add some carrot pieces and even celery to the soup. Very delicious.

Hope it turns out to your liking.

My favorite is bacon. Cooked crisp, and crumbled, added at the end, and heated thru.

Ham is also good.

Nothing wrong with burger though either. But cook it first, perhaps in little balls. You don't want that beautiful soup turning too brown, or greasy.

I always put onions in my Potato soup, cooking them with the potatoes, and a little extra at the end with the bacon.

And, some people also add shredded cheese.

I make a potato soup that I got in a recipe box with cheese, ham chunks, and red potatoes in it. It's delicious! I would definitely recommend using ham in a potato soup.

I can't see any reason as to why it wouldn't. I love potato soup and I think if anything the hamburger would make it better.

You could try ham too!

Try chunks of ham meat. It goes better. Also, add cheddar cheese, sour cream and leeks. That'll help with the flavor and add a bit of substance.

Yes it goes very well.

Give it a light fry first to release some of the fat and to increase the flavour and drain off the fat before adding to your soup.

its ok it just has to be drained well before adding any other ingredients. chicken works fine, seafood, or even cut up steak. your fine. you can add carrots leeks onions peppers celery to make it a chowder. ham is good too.and bacon...
