I suggest you go to Mao-Mart, or some other discount store and purchase one of the charcoal lighter chimneys. They are about 6" in diameter and 16" or so tall. Fill the chimney with charcoal, add some crumpled newspaper to the bottom, light the peper and after a while, you will have plenty of charcoal for you small kettle grill and no charcoal lighter taste to your meat.
I hate to use charcoal lighter to light a cooking fire. IMO, it ruins the taste of the food.

Enough to cover the area for charcoal that makes it one briquette deep when the coals are spread for cooking.
