I've never made meatloaf before, but I''m making it tonight and don't have a loaf pan. Can I just place the meat mixture in my Pyrex dish and maybe just cover it with tin foil to help hold its shape?

Here is the recipe I plan to use:

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yes Just shape into a loaf that is what I do , I don't have a loaf pan either.. it will shrink, but it will do that in a loaf pan too, so don't get alarmed. You can use the foil , but I never do , it lets the meat loaf brown better without it. Good recipe by the way ! *

A Pyrex dish should be fine. Meatloaves do not always have to be in a "loaf" form.

I sometimes pat mine out into "meatloaf burger" forms, and place them on a broiling pan that I've sprayed with cooking spray. The grease drops off and the patty gets that crunchy yumminess that meatloaf in the loaf form only gets on the ends. It cooks much faster this way, is easy to serve, is less greasy, and works really well for sandwhiches if those are your thing.

Good luck with this and I hope your meatloaf will turn out GREAT!

You can definately use a pyrex dish. Personally, when I make meatloaf, I like to use a wider pan and just form it into a loaf. It will hold it's own shape. Half way through cooking, I uncover it and it gets a nice crust on the top and sides.

you don't have to use a loaf pan, any pan should work. in the past i have used an 8x8in. it all depends on how thick you want the slices, just remember that because you are not going to use a loaf pan you may have to adjust the time. just keep an eye on it

i hope this helps and good luck

Yes, any pan will do and you don't need to cover it. The bread in the recipe holds the meatloaf together while cooking. Instead of bread, I have used bread crumbs or crackers.

325 F for oven setting - glass needs lower temperature! and bake it about 25 minutes then test. tooth pick in center comes out clean if it is done. If not add another 5 minutes and retest. Keep doing this until it is done in center. Always test with tooth pick or broom straw (washed of course) before pulling cake from oven. Chocolate cakes are very easy to over bake and are then dry to the taste. Ranch cook for 50+ years and bakery owner/operator for several of those.

You sure can, it just may take lest time to cook than if it were in a regular loaf pan. Just set your timer for a little less than you usually would and it should taste perfectly fine!! Good luck!

Yes, but no foil, it would ruin the meatloaf

Yes you can, but you will need to watch your timing as it will probably cook faster.
