You can't. Regular rice doesn't have enough of the required starches to react with the other ingredients to become sticky enough for "sticky rice"

Sticky rice is a type of rice that is sticky by nature, we don't add something to regular rice to make it sticky. The texture of these 2 is just different. You can buy sticky rice from any Asian or Chinese grocery, it is also known as glutinous rice, and sweet rice. It comes in long grain and short grain too, the short grain is softer and stickier.

Here is how I do it. As you know, you need twice as much water as rice. So I use 1 cup rice and 2 cups water except I add an extra 1/4 cup water then turn the burner to Med-Hi and cook uncovered and let it boil until the water is lower than the rice( it will start to make little holes with bubbles coming out of the holes) when it gets like this, turn the heat down( just barely hotter than simmer) Cover and wait 10 minutes.

Do not lift the lid during the 10 minutes. After that it will be sticky rice like you see in the Phillipines or Japan. Peace!

By cooking it so high in the beginning will make the rice release its starches. Try it,you'll like it.

Sticky rice needs a little more water in it than fluffy, not sticky rice.

Easiest way to get "sticky" rice is to.... Cook it in the microwave!

Seriously!

It works, and I love it.

I used to be a head chef and never used to believe in cutting corners as far as cooking, but rice cooked in the microwave is AWESOME!

Try it! You'll see.

Have fun.
