I've always liked the smell of glass cleaner. I've also wondered how it would taste, but have been afraid to try because if it could make me sick. But if I cook and use glass cleaner in chili and cook for a couple hours, will the chemicals cook away and be ok to eat?

If it's not meant for consuption, don't eat it. I understand that some non-food items smell good (permanent markers, for one), but eating non-food items is a serious medical issue.

First of all, you don't know if all the chemicals will cook out. And considering that those chemicals are probably what makes it smell so good, it's foolhardy to risk it.

Second, even if you do cook out all the chemicals, they don't just disappear. Now they're in the air you're breathing in, which can be even more hazardous to your health.

In all honesty, if you are having urges to drink glass cleaner, you need to talk to a doctor. This is a serious medical condition. I'm not a doctor, but if I had to take an educated guess, I would say this could be a sign of Pica (an eating disorder where a person eats or drinks non-food items). Please go see a doctor about these urges, as it could be pointing to a more severe medical issue that you may not know about. I'll put some resources below.

Get the material safety data sheet for the glass cleaner you want to use, and then search the internet for the components to see if any of them are toxic. For instance, if the alcohol used in the glass cleaner is denatured, it will kill you; if it is isopropyl, no worries.

It always amazes me. If I gave you a really good car would you trash it by adding any type of additives you feel like??? Your body is so much more valuable than a car, but you are prepared to trash it?? Poisons in the body always give your body a really hard time.
