anyone who eats needs to know how to feed themselves healthily. Cannot imagine ANY proof that men should NOT learn to cook.

Even if there are stories or incidents about men who failed at cooking or whatever, it doesn't mean men should not learn to cook. Its simply a stereotype society has implanted on what is acceptable for each sex. Its what they call in sociology, gender roles. Personally, I think anyone should learn to cook regardless their sex, why not? But society does stereotype women as the ones who do all the cooking. It can also differ in cultures, in most cultures women do most of the cooking, cleaning, etc. However, here in the United States and many other parts of the world, people are becoming more open as to what typically a "Man" and "Women" should or should not do.

There aren't any amusing anecdotes that reveal some horror story involving a man who learned to cook, but then regretted it, bitterly..if that's what you're looking for.

Some of the most world-renown chefs of the world are men, and there is virtually no viable and/or acceptable reason for a male to intentionally not learn how to cover the basics in the kitchen. No one is saying that an advanced degree in Culinary Science is necessary, but a few, easy to prepare meals are important for everyone to master.

If a guy is particularly unskilled at baking/cookery/food preparation, then all the more reason he should take the time and energy to learn..so he can be better at it..yes? Every man should at least know his way around a bar-b-q grill.

It is not true! The best cooks are men! I know Cook very well, since I was 10 years that I cook! Maybe it's just because I'm Italian, but in Italy the best cooks are men! As Vissani. When I see the tv, the American programs, there are only men like Gordon Ramsey in his show, or as in cake boss Buddy Valastro. But knowing how to cook is important!

I think it was the early hominin/hominid (thousands of years ago) that started cooking foods, with the discovery of fire. It was particularly after these humans were beginning to evolve and stand on two feet. Humans used to eat like grains and seeds and stuff due to living in grasslands, but then to be able to stand straight and tall, the jaw of the face and the teeth of the early hominids began to evolve to become smaller to be able to balance their centre of gravity so that they could walk properly as what we now call a striating/striding gait. Therefore, raw foods would have meant alot of chewing that only the bigger teeth in the less evolved humans would have had, and so with the discovery of fire, humans began to cook meats to make it more easier to chew and consume. The change to meats also meant that humans were able to have an increased uptake of food for energy, meaning they wern't all day grazers like herbivores therefore they didn't have to leave their colony/group as much. The change to meat also meant that the appendix became smaller and is now what we call a vestigial organ, as we do not eat a diet mainly composed of seeds and plants.

Lathika, if you look at some of the questions in here, you will find that women have a hard time in the kitchen. Lets look at your own country of India, the amount of men working those kitchens out number the women.

Sure men have incidents in the kitchen, and so do women, go away, and be sensible, if you can.

They should learn to cook. It's important to not rely on other people, one should be able to cook, clean and wash. It makes you a grownup.
