Hi everybody! Could I use the word 'husk' to indicate the peel of a peanut/pistachio etc.. ? If so,is it the best noun to describe them or is there any better word to use in this case?

I've read it is used for wheat and rice so I want to make sure it's a generic word and not a specific one. Thanks in advance for any replies ^o^

Shell for nuts since it's a hard outer casing. A husk is softer.

As defined in dictionary, you would be using 'husk" correctly. Though the word shell is the more common definition for the hard covering of peanuts, pistachios etc.

Merriam Webster Dictionary Definition

Definition 1.

a : a usually dry or membranous outer covering (as a pod or one composed of bracts) of various seeds and fruits (as barley and corn) : hull; also : one of the constituent parts

b : a carob pod

Definition 2

a : an outer layer : shell

b : an emptied shell : remnant

c : a supporting framework

Shell would be a more appropriate word if talking about a peanut or pistachio.
