Take the bread and put it in water a few times and squeeze it out like a sponge. Whats left in the water will be yeast. Most the yeast dies when bread is made so your not going to have a lot of living yeast. Not all yeast is dead. That's how jail and prison alcohol is made if no yeast lived on the bread they would not be able to produce their own alcohol.

Yeast is a live organism, a single-cell organism.

It is the air that it gives off that makes dough rise.

When you bake the dough, the heat of the oven kills the yeast.

You need LIVE yeast and there is none in cooked bread.

You must go to the store and get live yeast ... or borrow some from a neighbor.

Sorry.

You can't. Yeast is a living organism. Cooking kills it. Once the bread is cooked, all the yeast in it is dead. Bakers that need yeast for another loaf have to set some aside before they cook the bread.

You can try baking powder, though the texture is denser --

Unfortunately, it will take you around three weeks until you can make a loaf of bread, but it might be the best bread you've ever had.

Plus, if you had some remaining starter, you could have made more bread later.

I do. Its called vegemite. It tastes the best when you use the freshest of bread. First, butter the bread and then spread a small amount thinly on top. Delicious. You can also spread on graham crackers the same way

Jacob, what? You want to extract yeast from bread? Good one Sherlock. That's like saying you want to extract hops from beer?

Go buy a packet in a grocery story. Much less time wasted.
