The medjol dates that I've had for a few weeks (unrefrigerated, but still soft) have a white powder on them. It looks like powder sugar, almost. Is it sugar or mold? (Can dates mold?) THANKS!

Its confectioners' sugar which is dusted on the dates. It will not mold unless it becomes damp, which is unlikely if they are stored in their packaging and kept in a dry place.

that is maximum in all probability the organic sugars coming to the exterior. If the dates have been saved wisely (cool, dark, hermetic) they'd desire to be advantageous. purely you are able to tell nonetheless, by establishing and smelling them.
