Have you used Schwan's home delivery service?

http://www.schwans.com

I'd like to know if you've tried the meals they offer. They seem reasonably priced and they look good, but I'm not about to spend a bunch of money on home delivery of meals for my family without asking you fine people for your opinions. :)

Please tell me what you think of Schwan's food (and service).

Thanks!

P.S. I'm a terrible cook... any suggestions of other services or EASY recipes are welcome.

I love Schwan's. And where I live, there's a truck that sits on the corner and has "Truckload Sales" which is a deal! The ice cream is good, the pizza, the finger foods. My kids like it cuz it's quick and easy if mom isn't home to cook.

Here's two easy recipes too ---

Open-faced hamburgers

Mix ground beef with whatever seasonings you want, some shredded cheese and chopped onions. Make very, very thin patties about 1/2 inch bigger than the bun. Place patty on either top or bottom bun and broil until done. Watch them though because if the patty is too thick, the bun will burn before the meats done. It's a nice change from regular hamburgers.

Taco casserole -

Brown 2 lbs. ground beef with 2 pkgs taco seasoning. Drain and spread on bottom of casserole dish. Top meat in layers with the following: salsa, sour cream, shredded Colby/Jack cheese, Tostitos (restaurant style), salsa again and more cheese. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes (until bubbly). Good stuff and great as leftovers.

I've had Schwan's and the food is pretty good...not all the dinners are great but i will say the Angus burgers, although expensive, are well worth the money and the beef goulash is very good...they have the best kick A S S roasted red pepper quiso(sp? ooppsss) dip...it is to die for...even if you don't like peppers, you will love this trust me, it's a must try....their desserts are decent as well.. i have always had the nicest delivery guys from Schwan's too as well...and if you are looking for some recipes to make try logging onto AllRecipes.com you will find some things there to make or just put in something you'd like to make and you will find several ways to make the meal you are looking for plus people rate the recipes as well which helps you decide if you want to make that specific one or not....good luck

Yes we used them for a long while...till we both started going back to school and can't afford it.

I never bought any of the prepackaged meats or breakfast products. I did buy their dinners and ice cream most of the time.

The dinners were very good, usually we would add a salad or rice depending on the dish. Very easy to cook and tasted not too salty like some processed foods will.

For the price and the ease of use I'd say go for it.

I found the recipe that we used to take to cook outs or family gatherings. Was always the dish that was gone the fastest...of course I never fessed up to how it was made. http://www.schwans.com/recipes/recipe79.aspx?tb=4

My mom has used them for years at least 14 that I know of. That driver works his tail off and puts up with a lot. If you get a chance to and you are using their service during the holidays (or any day) we gave our guy a gift or a cold drink during the hot days.

Yeah he did start showing up later and later but he was given an expanded route and it took longer. But he would bring the stuff into the house and place it all in the freezer for me.....I never asked him to, he just did.

I have been a Schwans customer for years now... not only have they provided me with meals that are less time consuming but they have easy recipes and run specials. They deliver in my area every two weeks, not sure if that is common or not. I usually order online so that I am guaranteed my items when the truck delivers.

There is another company that is associated with Schwans that mail your food (packed in dry ice) called Impromptu Gourmet- its alittle more 'gourmet' but we have enjoyed their soups and dips.

I love the convenience of them coming to my home, and the fact that there are easy meals the kids can assist with.

Good luck and Enjoy.!!

I used to work for Schwan's. They food is good. The drivers work 12-14 hour days. Seriously. Tip them every once in a while. Most of them don't see thier families until the weekend.

I've never personally bought from Schwans but I have had their food. Both my next door neighbor (who is also a self proclaimed terrible cook) and my grandma buy from them. Everything I've had from them is delicious! The only reason I haven't bought from them is they seem a little high priced to me -- but I've toyed with the idea because everything is very good.

The Schwan's delivery man who does our street is extremely friendly and helpful.

The food is OK. I don't think their prices are great. I love to cook so I always opt for doing it myself. My suggestion is start slow. Try watching the cooking channel if you get cable. My favorite is Rachel Ray she has some great easy time cutting meals that are healthy and easy to follow. You can't go wrong with a George Foreman grill either. Easy things from the grocery too, like already to cook marinaded chicken breast, add a microwave baked potato and a veggie or salad and viola` you have a great dinner. There are lots of stir fry packs in the freezer section that you just have to add meat to. Then all you need is a pack of tortillas and some sauce, shredded cheese and maybe some sour cream. Try searching the food network site too for some great ideas. Start easy and experiment, cooking is not hard if you just don't panic.

They're good, they have good ice cream and everything. But one time Schwan's gave a lot of people food poisoning... it's only happened once though. I say go for it, buy one meal and then decide later if you want more.

My hasband is a "Schwans Man"...LOL...He just started delivering for the company about 2 months ago, they have an intense training where he was able to try most of the products and he was very very impressed, they really are a notch above most supermarket items and are simple to make and delicious! Everything I have tried I have been impressed with also. I really liked the Sweet Cream stuffed Pretzels, the ice cream is out of this world! He loves the boneless spicy chicken wings, the steaks, the vegetables, really almost everything!! If you can, let me know what you think. My husband is always looking for feedback!! ENJOY!

PS. The gentleman above is right. They do work their butt off, and work an obscene amount of hours, but my husband is never pushy and is really kind and helpful. He even carries dog biscuits for customers dogs!! He always tells me about kind people who offer him a beverage etc. Some lady even gave him a plate of dinner for the road.. It really warms his heart. There is a little old women on his route than barely buys much, but is widowed and he always makes a point to stop and visit her. So what comes around goes around for sure:)

Most Schwann's food is great! We love the mini pizzas, fish, ice cream and concentrated drinks. I have not tried much else, but if it is as good as the things I have tried...I say give it a try! Just buy a little at a time so you can figure out what you like and do not.

The only thing I don't like is when they interrupt your evening to get an order or when you miss them for a week.

Love Schwans. Food is very tasty.

30 Minute Meals, How To Boil Water, Everyday Italian, and Home Cooking with Paula Deen on foodnetwork.com all have easy recipes. I use them all the time. Watch the shows also if you have time.

Yes I don like their meals and especially the ice cream. Bit I couldn't afford to eat all my meals from Schwans. For special occasions is fine, but is you are on a budget you can blow it pretty fast on their products!

I have!!! I don't all the time, because I get my orders through my mother in law, but everything I've tried so far has been really good. Especially the boneless Asian wings...I don't know what they put on them, but they're out of this world!!!

If you're just starting out cooking try Rachel Ray's cook books and recipes...she really tailors to people starting out...and her recipes are healthy and delicious...

It's good stuff...

I came up with a slogan for them a few years ago after having some of their awesome ice cream...

"Lick my Schwans!!"

For some reason they didn't like it

Yes...I used to purchase a lot of the ice-creams and frozen pizzas when my kids were small.

I did try a few other items (frozen veggies/meals) but didn't like them. Try Stouffer's frozen lasagna meals. They are really good but you will need to follow the directions exactly. Don't under or over cook or it will not be as good.

They have good stuff but it is way over priced!

We used to order all the time until the delivery guy started coming at 9:00 at night! That is ridiculous. We haven't ordered from them since.

Yes, I have used it before, and the food may look good online, but it doesn't taste good. Not to mention the portions are RIDICULOUS. You end up paying alot for a little bit of nasty food point blank.

I would go with another delievery service.

or....cooking lessons?
