Question:
Where can I find some coq at the grocery store?

My girlfriend loves French food, and she says she is in the mood for some coq. Yet I can't seem to find any at the supermarket, all they have are broiler/roaster hens, which are too small and not firm enough. I need larger and firmer meat. Where can I find some coq to satisfy my girlfriend's cravings?

The French made an art out of making cheap cuts of meat or old birds taste yummy by the addition of wine, herbs and slow cooking. You can make coq au vin with a broiler bird, you do not need an old cockerel. Any bird slow cooked in wined and herbs will taste good.

Costco and Sam's Club carry larger pieces of coq.

Oh Eric, darling, I'm sure that what you've got, used creatively, will certainly work. It's not so much the size and firmness of the meat that is important...it's the way you work with it, the techniques you use for it, and the spices and accompaniments that enhance it, that make the meal satisfying.

you are being much too picky about the age of the chick! I think the broilers would work just fine, especially for just 2 servings out of the whole thing.

Hmm, I don't know where you can go to score your coq. but I did notice craq can easily be ordered on the arts & crafts website etsy.com! And that's even more convenient than your local grocery store!
