How do you put sprinkles on the side of a cake so you don't make a mess.

There's this thing that's like a tilting turn table, and what it does is tilts the cake slightly for easier decorating. You could use that and then wax paper on the edges as you add the sprinkles. It's not really 100% possible to not make a mess while adding sprinkles to the sides of your cake, trust me, I took a cake decorating course and even the pros would make messes.

If you're gonna do it with the icing already on it, Put icing over entire cake first, leave a litlle icing enough to go around entire sides of cake, and add sprinkles to the icing and put on the sides

you are going to make a mess no matter what, but if you position your hand to press the sprinkles in as you pour them down the sides, you can get even coverage with limited messiness.

place parchment paper at an angle next to the side and sprinkle the sprinkles down the side.
