If looking at one particular brand, why choose the vegetable oil over the sunflower oil? Sunflower oil IS a vegetable oil, since its made from sunflower seeds, and according to some cooking sites, is the healthier and tastier option. I am looking at a lidl vita dor brand right now, their vegetable oil is dearer, yet it states is best used for salads. Confusingly, the sunflower oil label states it is ideal for salads OR frying, yet is cheaper-surely this is just confusing the customer. Why choose the vegetable oil at all if its less healthy, used in less situations and dearer? Neither oil mentions genetically modified ingredients. Most brands are the same, having both a vegetable and sunflower option. I guess the majority of the public will not care which they use, but there seems no reason to ever use vegetable over sunflower?

Sunflower oil is 100% Sunflower and a good all round oil, suitable for frying, salad dressings, cakes etc. Vegetable oils is a mixture of oils and when used for frying gives off a distinct "fryer" smell which clings, I wouldn't use it for anything other then frying. In the UK Sunflower oil is a little bit more expensive than Veg. oil

Sunflower is one particular type or source of oil.

Generic vegetable oil may have mutiple unidentified sources.

Each type of oil has different cooking temperature limits.

Your best choice depends on your intended usage.

actually the VEGETABLE oil is better for the health as it contains nearly as twice as less saturated fat than sunflower oil!saturated fat is the one that gives people high cholesterol!compared it today as i was shopping!if you do use the sunflower oil try the unrefined it has the aroma of freshly pressed roasted sunflower seeds & is fantastic for salads!

but the best oil is cold pressed olive oil but a bit pricey!

also the foods that contain genetically modified ingredients are banned in UK.

vegatable oil is less healthy when heated as it breaks down but on the other hand it lasts longer for reuse like in a deep fat fryer. prices do vary in the uk but only slightly.

the healthiest is oilve oil which i mostly use but if i shallow fry i use sunflower as olive oil is too pricey.

sunflower oil is much better for you and good to eat raw unlike veggie cack......

sunflower oil works in tuna and in salads still.

it may keep heat better but i know it is healthier.

Vegetable oil is cheaper in my country though. I think it depends on each brand and country. Hope tht helps.

Vegetable is not only a technological term, it is a cooking term. So the qualifications to become a vegetable are not very coherent, which is why we have cases like the tomato: people argue both ways.

Scott you are over thinking this. Just buy whichever one you want and stop worrying about it. It's just cooking oil.
