I can't afford $300 for a stand mixer right now. Are there any good runners up that are affordable and durable?

I know what you mean Vic. I've had my eye on the KitchenAid for a while.
My Kenmore just won't quit though... :)
I've had it for years and I love it. Lot less expensive, for sure.
Great brand and you can purchase it for less than $75. dollars.

I think Kitchenaid ..Cuisinart are the top 2 but there are some good brands out there..I think it depends on what you want in a stand mixer.......I was looking at reviews last night...I've had my eye on a Kitchenaid for a long time..but just too much to spend on an appliance I use occasionally I have a Cuisinart hand mixer...I saw a review for a Rival sold at Walmart..under $50.00..If you replace it twice it is still less than the top rated mixers...
Hope this helps.....

You get what you pay for with a stand mixer. Kitchen Aid is the best and will last you a very long time. Hobart makes a good stand mixer too, but they are almost $100 more than the Kitchen Aid.
Save your money for the best. You'll be happy that you don't have to replace an inferior quality mixer very 3 or 4 years

Kitchenaid is far and away the best. Cuisinart and Bosch would be next - and Hamilton Beach and Sunbeam come in for good reviews and cost effective. You might want to take a visit to Amazon and check out some of the people's reviews on the mixers - I do that when purchasing something. It's good to have comments from real users..

Hobart. BTW, where do you get a KitchenAid for only $300? I paid $500 for mine. Professional 6 1/2 quart.

I've had my Sunbeam for over 25 years. Still works great for what I need it for...cakes, cookies, mashed potatoes etc. Can't justify getting a new one. I don't make huge batches or do heavy duty recipes but it has never failed me. Knocking on wood right now.

I would say Sunbeam, and the reason is because you see more old Sunbeam mixers in thrift stores than any other brands, which indicates they don't break and get thrown out, but rather outlive their owners.
