Hey I was thinking of making supper for my family tomorrow and would like to know some good meal ideas, something cheap would be preferred and perhaps something different, not of the norm, thanks.

Make a stir fry, whatever meat you use, slice it and cook it in batches so it doesn't stew. Add lots of veggies, the meat and stir fry sauce (honey and soy, teriyaki, whatever takes your fancy). Serve with boiled or garlic rice (melt some butter, add chopped garlic then add boiled rice and stir through). So nice that you're cooking for your family. Whatever you make will be great, I'm sure. :D

How about CHEAP and HEALTHY? - not to mention quick as can be!

Take out all the vegetables from the fridge that you have that might go to waste in the next couple of days. Mushrooms, broccoli, peas, peppers, carrots, really anything.

Wash it up, chop it up, and throw it into a large sauté pan. Add some cooking oil and put it on medium heat. Cook some chicken breasts (about 1 per person) dice them into squares and throw them in as well.

Boil some water and make some (preferably brown or wild) rice.

Add soya sauce into the sauté pan right before the vegetables are fully cooked (soft and tender but not mushy).

Then serve the rice on a plate, topped with the chicken stir fry.

You have:

-1 serving of carbohydrates (rice)

-1 serving of vegetables

-1 serving of protein (chicken)

and feel free to have a glass of milk for your

-1 serving of dairy

all four food groups just using what you find in your cupboards and fridge - pretty much free..

How about this-

Hamburger Casserole

1 pound of cook/drain hamburger

5-6 potatoes, peeled and slice

You can add garlic and onions or any favorite spice etc.

2 cans of cream corn--1 can of milk

Shredded cheese of your favorite kind

In a casserole dish lay in the slices potatoes and add the hamburger and mix, add the cream corn with 1 can of milk stir until all mix..Place lid on it.

Bake in oven at 350 degree for 1 hour OR if you use a microwave casserole dish you can place this in the microwave for up to 30 minutes depending on how tender you want your potatoes to be, when this is done top with about a cup of shredded cheese and place back in oven or microwave to melt..Enjoy!

I do not know what "of the norm" is for you, because it is different for everyone. I have this spaghetti dish, it is inexpensive and tasty to make, and very flavorful. I serve it with a salad by itself, and sometimes with a meat.

Garlic spaghetti

one lb of spaghetti

6-7 cloves of chopped garlic

one stick of butter

half a cup of olive oil or vegetable oil

One cup store brand parmesan cheese, or parmesan-romano cheese

One can of store brand chopped tomatoes with garlic, basil.

Boil spaghetti till tender. Pour into strainer. In pot put garlic and oil and tomatoes. I heat this till the tomato juice is mostly gone. add butter and melt. Add pasta, stir to coat well and then add the parmesan cheese, stir well. Done.

Burrito bowls. With grilled chicken. Cook rice, add cilantro and lime to it. grab some salsa, shredded cheese, sour cream, and lettuce, and canned refried or black beans if you like for toppings. Everyone can put together their own. If you like also grab some flour tortillas for the side.

If you really want cheap and creative, roadkill. As long as its fairly fresh I am sure you could get a variety of meats. It will cost you at most (2) gallons of gas to drive around and get something still warm. Skin it, boil it with some carrots, potatoes, and onions and you got a hillbilly stew.
