Does anyone have a cake recipe that adds jello mix to create different colored layers?

I originally found the recipe in an American Girl magazine. I think you made a white cake, separated into bowls and then added dry jello mix to create the different colors.

Poke Cake. You pierce the cooked cake layers w a fork & pour the cooked jello (flavor of choice) over the top.

Poke Cake

Serves: 12

1 pkg. (2-layer size)white cake mix

1 cup boiling water

1 pkg. (4-serving size) Jello Brand Gelatin, any flavor

1/2 cup cold water

1 tub (8 oz.) COOL WHIP Whipped Topping, thawed

HEAT oven to 350F. PREPARE and bake cake in 13x9-inch pan as directed on package. Remove from oven. Cool cake in pan 15 minutes. Pierce cake with large fork at 1/2-inch intervals.

MEANWHILE, stir boiling water into gelatin in small bowl at least 2 minutes until completely dissolved. Stir in cold water; carefully pour over cake. Refrigerate 3 hours. FROST with whipped topping. Refrigerate at least 1 hour or until ready to serve. Decorate as desired.

1 pk White cake mix

2 pk Jello (3 oz) any flavor

2 c Boiling water

1 pk Cool whip, thawed (8 oz)

Instructions

1. Bake cake mix as directed on package. Remove from pans to cool. Rewash pans and put cakes back in them when the cakes are completely cooled. It is best to use 2 8-9" round cake pans but you can use an oblong pan if you want. After cakes have been place back into pans (top side up), prick them with utility fork at 1/2" intervals. Meanwhile, dissolve each flavor separately in 1 cup boiling water. Carefully pour one flavor gelatin over each cake layer (if using oblong pan you must use the same flavors for the 2 pks).

2. Chill 3-4 hours. Dip one cake pan in warm water for 10 sseconds, then unmold cake layer onto serving plate. Top with about 1 c. cool whip. Unmold second cake layer and carefully place on first layer. Frost with remaining topping. Chill.

Jello Surprise Cake

Ingredients

1 box yellow cake mix (prepared)

2 boxes sugar free jello (two different flavors)

Mix yellow cake mix as directed on box.

Divide batter into two bowls; add 1/2 small box of one jello into one bowl of batter and mix; in the second bowl add 1/2 small box of the other flavor of jello to second bowl of batter and mix well.

Pour each bowl of batter into a greased and floured 9 inch cake pan. Bake as directed on package. This makes two layers.

You bake a white cake, and while it's baking you make a jello mix of choice...we usually did strawberry, then when the cake is done, you poke several holes in it, and pour the jello in the holes, and put coolwhip and strawberries on top, and refrigerate. That's what my mother-in-law does...I hope that's the recipe you're thinking of . Good luck!
