so, 30 seconds ago I had a seriously great idea.

why spend £2.80 on a large chips and battered sausage when I can TRY it at home for a fraction of the price ?

right now i have frozen sausages in my freezer - sometimes I'll buy Sausages which are thawed and packaged, but i've started buying the frozen ones - as I find them to tasty.

Is it possible to prepare the frozen sausages with some kind of batter thats similar to what your local chippy does ?

that way I can enjoy battered sausage n chips with mushy peas lol

thats the goal tomorrow evening before the CL final.

should I thaw them and then toss them into a bag containing the batter mixture ?

obviously it must be do-able, cos we buy a lot of battered cod, plaice, haddock etc from supermarkets as it is.

but wtf is the batter mixture essentialy made out of ????

can i buy ready made batter mixture ?

how do I go abouts this then folks ?

thaw them first.

The batter won't stick as well to the frozen ones because they are frosty and the batter will come off due to that extra moisture.

Thaw them in the fridge over night and tomorrow wipe them with a towel and then batter away.

I am in the US and never had battered sausages.

Sounds kind of good but deadly at the same time. :)

You can batter frozen sausages, I used to when I worked in a fish and chip shop, but at home you are better to use defrosted sausages. Make a batter mix from self raising flour and water, if you want to add an egg that's fine, but not necessary. Make the batter mix quite thick otherwise when you drop sausage into the oil most of the batter will come off. Make sure the oil is really hot too. If you have a thermometer you can probe the sausage to make sure it is cooked through, if not, cook your sausages first, then put into a warm oven while you cook your chips, that way the sausage will def be cooked by the time the rest of your meal is ready. Enjoy!

Thaw, cook and then batter. The batter will insulate sausage and the sausage wont cook through just think if battered icecream.

But the batter mix is just pancake batter with more flour so it leaves a trail.

£2.80 is cheap for a batter sausage supper.
