I bought the chicken yesterday at the upper class supermarket and on the package says expiration date not until three days later but when I wanted to cook today I found the chicken showed mucus or it kinda like wet slimy paint I smelled it but didn't smell bad at all, is the chicken still fresh if it shows that mucus? i have already cooked it for my baby meal and fed him but 2hours later he vomited I am so worry and wondering whether this is caused by the food i cook for him? how quick you can tell if you get food poisoning?

Grocery store chains often extend the expiration day by soaking the meat in bleach over-night. If it smells funny, don't take the chance. I would return it to the store for an exchange. Even if you have already cooked it maybe still talk to the manager about it. It is not acceptable to buy bad meat.

I don't know what the mucous is though, unless that is the meat breaking down from the bleach bath the night before. Meat will not ooze mucous, or at least i have not seen this in my 70 years.

Just because you bought it at an "upper class" store, doesn't mean it's upper class meat!!! Even THOSE stores want to make more money and will do what they can to do it... even to keeping food past it's expiration date. If you did cook it before the expiration date, I would take it back to the store (before the expiration date) and tell them it made your baby sick. Get your money back!... If they refuse, get an attorney. It's not about the money, it's the principle... A store keeping food and trying to sell it past the expiration date. It may seem like such a small thing, but what they are doing could make more people ill!!! Call the health department on them!!!!!!!! Don't throw away the wrapping! It's PROOF!

Good luck

If chicken is bad, you should be able to smell and taste it. It's not a subtle taste/smell. Chicken is a little mucusy a lot of times, just rinse it and you're ready to go.

Your baby vomited for any of a thousand reasons, but not food poisoning. Food poisoning takes longer to incubate before the symptoms start showing.

smell is your first clue of bad meat. slime could be anything from injected or pressure packed salt water or other thickening compounds to add weight and substance (see higher profit) as far as today's meats are concerned there are more preservatives in them to make them last longer on the shelf and limit spoilage. older yellower chicken had a type of anti salmonella compound in it to prevent (idiot teenage food worker) cross contamination from happening.

If your baby got sick, you may have just a case of sensitivity to additives or the meat itself.

keep a vigilant eye on what the kid eats and watch for allergies

Did you store the chicken as per instructions on the packing? If baby has vomited he should be fine but keep observing. If in doubt call doctor.

Do not use chicken.

You know the chicken has gone bad when it comes after you with the axe and tried to cut your head off. Then he says---mmmmm tastes like human. *wink

Serously--meats do get a slime when they are spoiled. Touch your balongna before you eat it. ;)
