Steak with chunky chips....

Cut the potatoes into big rectangles about 2 inch long & 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick and part boil. Drain thoroughly & blot on kitchen roll to remove excess water, then either fry in deep fat fryer if you have one or for best results, brush them with oil & put in roasting tray in the oven until browned. Cook steak medium (slightly pink & bloody/juicy) if you're not sure of his preference or ask how he prefers it.

for starters you could have something easy like pate (from local butchers) and some dips like humus, chilli dip, salsa etc served with mini bruscettas etc

For dessert get or borrow a big ice cream sundae glass & fill with layers of cherries, raspberries, strawberries and icecream & rich berry sauce and serve with two long spoons for a cosy end to the meal.

This you can make earlier & keep in the fridge til you're ready to serve.

Don't make anything too elaborate or you will be stressed & not enjoy yourself & also end up leaving him sat on his own for ages while you're cooking!

Enjoy & have a fab time ;0)

Why not cheat!

Has Marks and Spencers not got a dine in for two for the ten pounds that includes a bottle of wine.

I would do something really simple that will not take up all your time.

A small roast can be done in the oven with the potato and carrots and parsnip and pumpkin around it.

You could cook small new potatoes and broccoli on the top and serve.

Men like traditional puds like Apple Pie and Custard but as you already have the oven on you could do a bread and butter pudding in it and serve it with pouring cream.

I cooked for my boyfriend and his dad last friday. I made Russian salad and fish fries for starter, Mixed fried rice and Pineapple chicken for the main entree and Sandiwich cookies for dessert.

Here are the recipes:

Fish fries: Cut Tilapia fillets into thin finger size pieces. roll them into flours, egg and bread crumbs. Let them set in the refrigerator for 1 hour. deep fry them! If you can, make a dip with sour cream, cilantro, tomato sauce and cilantro.

Russian Salad: Take two potatoes, two carrtos and an egg. Boil them and cool them in the refrigerator (you can do it the night before the dinner). Cut them into very small squares. Add 2 chicken franks, 1/2 Apple, 3 slices of pineapple, 1/2 cucumber, 1/2 tomato (without the seeds) (all the vegetables shoudl be cut into very small squares)and 1/2 cup boiled green peas. Add 2 Tbsp of light Mayonnaise, salt, pepper and a little bit of sugar.

cutting the veges take time. but the end result is totally worth it. Give it a shot!

Fried Rice: Check this out http://chinesefood.about.com/od/ricefried/r/prawnfriedrice.htm

For the Pinapple chicken, I used this recipe. It was a roaring success. I skipped the batter part. It was still yummy.

The dessert was the easiest.

you do not ought to make this the nighttime previously as that is rapid and ordinary. Take a casserole dish, 2 cups on the spot rice, 2 cups water. positioned frozen hen breasts (boneless, skinless) or frozen hen tenders around the coolest. Take a kit of Lipton Onion Soup mixture and a kit of Lipton Ranch Dip mixture. Shake mutually and pour flippantly over the coolest. conceal with foil, bake at 4 hundred stages for approx 40 5 minutes. Take foil off for final 10 minutes or so. Serve with salad or green beens. sturdy stuff!

Red Potatoes

boil several red potatoes until tender, they do not need to be peeled. Smash them. Add milk, sour cream, butter, salt and pepper, sliced green onion and cheddar cheese. Mix well. Put in dish and bake for about 20 minutes.

Asparagus, sauteed in olive oil and butter. Season with salt.

A fruit pie for dessert, served with ice cream.

Simple - bangers and mash with vegetables and onion gravy

Less simple - an Autumn potato gratin dish (loads of recipes online - it's good to eat seasonal!)

For starters you could do a soup using seasonal vegetables eg

For dessert how about a nice homemade apple crumble and custard.

Do ground beef, bacon, and onions with homemade mashed potatoes on the side. Biscuits are good, too! For a starter, maybe chef salad with lunch meat- quick and easy. Dessert? maybe rootbeer floats, or apple dumplings! http://www.apple-pie-crisp-dumplings-recipes.com/

Hope this helps,
