I'm making a double layer cake, am I supposed to make one cake mix and split it in half, or take two cake mixes?

The usual cake mix makes a 13x9 pan , or two 8-9 inch round pans. the pan selection is on the box, along with the baking times. There is cupcake and bundt pan instructions too.
You can stack the two layers with your filling in between them, or split the tow cakes each in half, and have four thin layers to fill.

this really depends on the size of your cake pans - but I would buy two box mixes. When I do two tiered cakes it usually takes 1 box mix & 3/4 of the other mix.

You're supposed to use one cake mix and split it in half.
Helpful hint: if you're using a dark non-stick pan, reduce your oven temperature by 25 degrees and check it early. Use a toothpick inserted in the center to check for doneness: if it comes out clean, the cake is done. Cool it on a wire rack if you have one. Cool thoroughly before frosting it.

:) double layer truffles could be made 2 procedures...with 2 separate truffles or with one cake cut back in a million/2 like a hamburger bun 2 cake mixes will make a marginally tall cake with *in my opinion* too lots cake and not sufficient icing :) yet its lots greater basic than attempting to maintain a point slice in the process the cake

you usually buy one cake mix, cook it and split it in half. If you took two, the cake would be huge.
