Im trying to save calories and want to make instant pudding but dont want to waste it...Has anyone tried using water? I know it would be runny if you used 2 cups like the directions call for but what if you used less water and more filling? Would it thicken that way? Has anyone tried?

I am a former chef and have found that certain soya milks work ok, just make sure it is not flavoured with say vanilla for a chocolate pudding, you can get chocolate and strawberry flavour soya milks, even rice and oat milks due fine they do not set up the same as with dairy milk, skim is fine but reacts the same as soya milk, but if the milk is cold and you can get it mix quickly, a hand mixer helps.

I have even make Dream Whip with vanilla soya milk and it turns out not bad, it is the milk fats structure that makes it more solid.

Those mixes are 'calibrated' for cow milk and Soymilk isn't as thick as cow milk. From what I recall those boxed mixes call for two cups liquid, cut the amount to 1 3/4th cups of soymilk or 1 1/4th cups water to achieve the same final texture as cow milk. Also have everything cold! Instead of keeping the box in your pantry, Store it in a sealed baggie in your freezer. Colder is better.

Have you ever eaten cereal with water instead of milk? That's about what you're going to get.

However, my friend introduced me to this idea to save calories; she puts instant breakfast mix in her coffee in the morning. It's really good, like a latte or even mocha. I bought the sugar-free ones and it does help curb appetite.

Good Luck.

Yes you can use 1 cup of water boil it then one cup of cold water and mix 2 tbl spoons of cornstarch in it desolve it then add 0ne table spoon vinilela extract to it then pour into boiling water mix til start thickening. let it cool down put in frig for 1/2 hr. use it instead of milk with pudding mix use mixer to smooth. taste the same as if you used milk.

No. If you use less water, it doesn't turn into pudding at all. It isn't good tasting at all. They have the recipe set because it's the only way you can make pudding.

My advice is to use skim milk to make the pudding. There is only 50 little calories per serving doing that. It's good. I do it all the time.

i decrease the amount of soy milk and I make it really cold by blending it with ice cubes before I add it to the pudding mix. This usually does the trick.

No.

I don't think it will taste good.

If you're trying to save calories, why not use skim milk?
