What matters is your effort. So if you have time you can try a cookery class, but the key in mastering cookery or at least learning is experience. So start helping whenever you see someone cooking. What makes a dish tasty and special is not what is taught by cooks or what is in books but small things such as the amount of salt or pepper you must put or the amount of heat or the temperature. Those come with experience. Start off with small things she likes, don't get in to a huge thing at once. Then you will end up making a mess of the whole thing for sure and hate cooking for life. Make her a cup of tea to start off with, trust me she'll love it. Help her when she cooks. That way you'll be learning as well as getting to know of her tastes too.

I hope that helps. Good luck!

Join your local library if you have not already, then go find old fashioned cook books i.e. good housekeeping & Mrs Beetons, they will give you the basics & more advanced as you go along, also go for Delia Smith basic cooking, she is fabulous at expalining how to do things, from boiling an egg to a full blown dinner party...good luck & well done for thinking of your girl in such a lovely way...she a lucky girl to have a man like you that wants to try hard in the domestic field instead of just leaving it to her..good for you

You can go to the Food Network web site. They have cooking basics and videos to help you. It's free and you can watch them anytime you want.

I don't know about colleges in London, but here in the U.S. many colleges have continuing education classes that teach cooking and they're usually held on weekends. Maybe you could check that out to see if there are any near you.

Good luck! I think it's really great that you want to cook for your girlfriend. She's a lucky girl....I can't get my boyfriend to cook unless he's starving!

Not sure of any teachers/classes - sorry!

Have you ever thought of doing it cheaply. My other half helps me in the kitchen and watches me cook something and will next time try it on his own, you could also ask any relatives/friends if they can help you learn, that way you don't have to pay out any money.

Just a thought, good luck, if you find anything let me know, with Xmas just around the corner, I could use it as a pressie for him hee hee!

Hi all you need to do is go to your local college and they will give you info on cookery classes, or you can buy a recipe book or a how to cook book in your local supermarket. Hope this helps.

The best way to learn how to cook is to get yourself a really good recipe book and experiment with the recipes, practise makes perfect, just don't be scarred and relax, the more you cook the easier it will become, give it a go and a tip, don't forget to wash up after yourself and leave the kitchen as you found it, good luck.

Deila Smith's Complete Cookery Course simply cannot be beaten. This has to be any new cook's bible. I've been cooking for over 30yrs and still go back to Deila when I have a query.

It is not difficult to cook, yes I can understand its scary for those who haven't done it much but just get right in aboot it and start cooking simple stuff. Get ideas for recipes from the internet (the BBC site is fantastic) get some pals round to sample and get cracking! Good luck.

Hearty soups are good place to start and are so simple you'll wonder whats taken you so long.

I practice dinner nicely because i fairly have a good time with it and that i have a experience for a kitchen. i love turning out to be, construction, and making nutrients. i replaced into contained in the Marines for 6 years and the Marine Corps taught me to keep issues very sparkling and tidy. the defense force experienced me to be neat. i love youthful children, I coach adolescents events at a YMCA and that i have a good time with children. not some thing I do or do not do impacts my personal emotions on my masculinity. i understand i'm a guy and when you consider that I practice dinner, sparkling, and convey up youthful children, i think reliable about myself. It has not some thing to do with my manliness. Hell, i will provide for myself without wanting others. That makes me fantastically manly.

Many med-sized citites have cooking schools, or gourmet kitchenware shops that offer cooking classes. You go, participate in teh cooking, then eat what you all made.

Many larger Williams-Sonomas offer classes, but try a locally-owned purveryor first.

buy a book first

start slow and keep it simple

my experience is they appreciate the effort and thought as much as the final execution

remember SIMPLE and perhaps a starter that you can pre-prepare and a desert thats got chocolate in it also pre prepare then on the evening you can look swish preparing a simple main course - most girls wont eat loads so dont make loads
