Question:
Is using hot tamales the same as using red hots for candy apples?

I am pregnant and I really want candy apples. The thing is, its so close to halloween that all the stores I've been to are sold out of candy apple kits, so I looked online for recipes. The recipes I look at said I could use "red cinnamon candies, like red hots", but I could only find hot tamales at the stores. Does anyone know if the candy apples will come out the same if I use hot tamales?

Sorry, but they aren't. Tamales won't melt like red hots.

Here's a recipe that uses cinnamon and corn syrup instead of red hots:

Would not come out the same. Different products. Cut apples and eat the hot tamales, might be a good substitution for your craving.

NO-hot tamales are a softer more gummy candy that don't melt like the harder red hots
