I have a wonderful fondue recipe I tried at a friend's house in her fondue pot. I want to try it but really can not afford to buy a fondue pot right now. I am wondering if a crock pot is just as good, or if maybe it wouldn't get hot enough? The recipes is with cheese, beer, and spinach. So it would have to get hot enough to melt the cheese, but not burn it, etc. Anyone try fondue in a crock pot? Thank you.

Yes you can do this. For a basic cheese fondue, use 1/4 cup each of 3 different cheeses and 1/4 cup of white wine. Or you can buy a fondue mix and use that. Put all the fondue ingredients into a small crockpot. A 3-quart or 3 1/2-quart crock pot would be good. If you use a larger slow cooker, you may need to double or triple the ingredients. Make sure that the pot is at least half full or the fondue may burn.

Turn the crock pot up to high. Let the ingredients melt for 30 to 45 minutes, then stir. Turn the heat to low, cover and continue cooking until you are ready to serve the fondue.

Take off the lid and serve the fondue with a selection of items for dipping. Croutons and vegetables work well with cheese fondue. Use fondue dipping forks if you have them, otherwise just use regular forks.

Yes but I think you would want to make the fondue in a regular pan and transfer to the crock pot to keep warm. Remember that you will need to keep stirring the fondue to keep it from scorching on the sides or bottom of the pot. Are you using a regular size pot or one of the single serve type pots? It would work better in the smaller pot. You can not use the crock pot for a meat fondue, the oil would not get hot enough to cook the pieces of meat. For a chocolate fondue the crock pot would be excellent.

The problem with a crock pot may be it's size. Most crock pots are pretty large. You could use a bowl the size of your fondue ingredients and melt in the microwave. Simply reheat in the microwave as needed.

Should work fine, just know that with beef, only parts that have been exposed to open air need to be heated up at all. So just as long as your crock pot can maintain a temperature of around 160 to 180 degrees Fahrenheit you're safe, and you wont burn your cheese to fast!

It's an idea I've wanted to try, but didn't know if it would work. According to this link, you most certainly can use a crock pot or slow cooker.
